Fall Play Auditions Set
Shawnee Community College SCC is looking for a
cast of characters, literally. From clocks and candelabras to salt shakers
and teapots, hey, we are even casting a Beast! Use your imagination
we
may have the right role for you!
Auditions for the 17th Annual Fall Children's Theatre, "Beauty
and the Beast" will be on Friday, September 9 from 2 - 6 p.m. and
on Saturday, September 10 from 9 a.m. until noon. Auditions are open
to the public from ages 8 to adult and will be held in the SCC Educational
Center. A cast of 65 is expected including characters and chorus members.
Those auditioning must bring a headshot, snapshot or school photo of
their faces. Upon arrival, please sign in at the registration table,
complete the audition form and attach your photograph. The actual audition
time will be approximately 10-15 minutes per small group. Participants
may leave after their audition; for audition results please contact
Gae Morris on Tuesday, September 13 from noon to 4 p.m. at 800-481-2242,

Participants are encouraged to wear loose clothing,
enabling them to learn some simple dance steps and be prepared to cold-read
from the script. Those auditioning will be required to sing a prepared
song and scales, showcasing their vocal range. Participating in a college
theatre performance is a major commitment of time and talent. Rehearsals
will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The first rehearsal and read
through will be Thursday, September 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the SCC Educational
Center. Dress rehearsals are mandatory.
"Beauty and the Beast" performances will be held in the Educational
Center located at the Main Campus near Ullin on Thursday and Friday,
November 3 and 4 at 9 a.m. and noon, with evening performances on Friday
and Saturday, November 4 and 5 at 7:30 p.m. New to this year's performance
schedule is a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. Tickets go on sale Tuesday,
October 11 at 9 a.m.
"Beauty and the Beast" is presented with
music by Alan Menken, and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice. The
story is based on the book by Linda Woolverton. Belle, whose father
Maurice is imprisoned by the Beast, offers herself instead and finds
the prince inside the Beast.
