Fall Play Auditions Set

Shawnee Community College SCC is looking for a cast of characters, literally. From clocks and candelabras to salt shakers and teapots, hey, we are even casting a Beast! Use your imagination…we may have the right role for you!
Auditions for the 17th Annual Fall Children's Theatre, "Beauty and the Beast" will be on Friday, September 9 from 2 - 6 p.m. and on Saturday, September 10 from 9 a.m. until noon. Auditions are open to the public from ages 8 to adult and will be held in the SCC Educational Center. A cast of 65 is expected including characters and chorus members. Those auditioning must bring a headshot, snapshot or school photo of their faces. Upon arrival, please sign in at the registration table, complete the audition form and attach your photograph. The actual audition time will be approximately 10-15 minutes per small group. Participants may leave after their audition; for audition results please contact Gae Morris on Tuesday, September 13 from noon to 4 p.m. at 800-481-2242, extension 3323 or 618-634-3323; or email at gaem@shawneecc.edu.

Participants are encouraged to wear loose clothing, enabling them to learn some simple dance steps and be prepared to cold-read from the script. Those auditioning will be required to sing a prepared song and scales, showcasing their vocal range. Participating in a college theatre performance is a major commitment of time and talent. Rehearsals will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The first rehearsal and read through will be Thursday, September 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the SCC Educational Center. Dress rehearsals are mandatory.
"Beauty and the Beast" performances will be held in the Educational Center located at the Main Campus near Ullin on Thursday and Friday, November 3 and 4 at 9 a.m. and noon, with evening performances on Friday and Saturday, November 4 and 5 at 7:30 p.m. New to this year's performance schedule is a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, October 11 at 9 a.m.

"Beauty and the Beast" is presented with music by Alan Menken, and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice. The story is based on the book by Linda Woolverton. Belle, whose father Maurice is imprisoned by the Beast, offers herself instead and finds the prince inside the Beast.
