New Metro Center Director
Dr. Sally West is now the Director of
the Metropolis Regional Education and Training Center. Born and raised
in Metropolis, Dr. West began her tenure with Shawnee Community College
August 1. She has worked in education for her entire career, most recently
as coordinator of the 2+2 program and assistant professor for Murray
State University at the Paducah Regional Campus before joining the SCC
family.
Dr. West has hit the ground running in
Metropolis, with plans and goals for the future. She would like to continue
expansion through additional classroom space at the Metro Center, as
well as making sure all educational and training needs are met in the
region. She would also like to see more students begin their higher
education activities in the community college system. "I am excited
for the opportunity to help students move toward their own personal
educational endeavors in higher education. Community colleges provide
a great atmosphere for students to begin their college career,"
Dr. West said.
Dr. West is looking forward to building
community relationships through educational training in an effort to
help economic growth in the region. "I believe the college can
provide the knowledge base to bring businesses back home to Southernmost
Illinois. I am thrilled to be more active in my community now that I
am working closer to home," Dr. West said.
