SCC Truck Driving Hosts 20th Anniversary
Reunion
The SCC Truck Driving program began in
1985 with Ray Breeden teaching classes using his personal trucks. Breeden
still teaches at SCC part-time. Throughout the years, Shawnee has contracted
with John A. Logan, Rend Lake, Southeastern and Purchase Training Center
(WKCTC) to help those Truck Driving programs get started.
In 1995, the curriculum changed to a 16-credit
hour, 10-week program, which is what current students study. After the
course work is completed, students participate in a 5-week externship
to complete the certification. These are done at the company of the
students' choice, which almost guarantees job placement with that company.
The program averages a 90 percent success rate.
The reunion of the program is set for
October 29th for the reunion. Anyone that completed or taught the Truck
Driving Program at SCC is invited to attend this event. Those interested
need to RSVP by August 31 so that arrangements can be made in advance.
