Amy Poole and Josh Yates were recently recognized as
members of the Phi Theta Kappa All-Illinois Academic Team at a conference
in Springfield. PTK is the international honor society for two-year colleges.
The PTK All-USA Academic Team is sponsored annually by PTK, USA Today, and
the American Association of Community Colleges. The All-Illinois Academic
Team honors outstanding Illinois community college students.
At SCC, Amy is involved as a Student Ambassador as well
as PTK. A native of Tamms, Amy plans to fulfill her dream of working in the
medical field, and has recently been accepted into the Surgical Tech program
at Southern Illinois Collegiate Common Market.
Josh currently serves as the student representative for
the SCC Board of Trustees and as the president of the SCC Student Senate.
He is the Director of Public Relations for the Alpha Lambda Epsilon chapter
of Phi Theta Kappa. Josh is also the executive editor for the SCC student
newspaper, the Tempo. Josh will participate in the 2006 Institute on Political
Journalism at Georgetown University summer internship program. He is pursuing
a career in political science and communications.
Both of these students are very active in their chapter.
They participate in several activities such as the SCC Easter Egg Hunt, fundraising
activities for PTK and Katrina relief, and many more activities. Both students
were awarded this honor because of the numerous activities they do in their
communities, their schools and their chapter, as well as the leadership they
show through these activities while maintaining good grades.
