Shawnee Community College Future Teachers Organization is hosting their annual "School Supply Drive" for this year. As a part of a community service project, the club members are collecting donations of supplies from faculty, administration, staff, and S.C.C. students. Shawnee's New Career Technology Center Expands Programs
2013 LPN Pinning Ceremony
2013 LPN Pinning Ceremony LPN students celebrated with family & friends as they received their certificates during the annual LPN Pinning Ceremony. There were 31 graduates total. Emily Horn was named "Most Improved", Mahala Prater was honored as the student with the "Most Perseverance", and Donna Haselbusch received the "Most Compassion" honor.
Upward Bound Students from Chicago Tour SCC Main Campus
Upward Bound Students Upward Bound Students from Chicago visited the SCC main campus on Thursday to learn more about the TRIO program, student support service programs, financial aid, transferring credits, and more.
During their visit they also toured the main campus, and had an opportunity to ask questions about the different academic programs here at Shawnee College. If you are interested in learning more about these services visit the SCC student services webpage, or call the TRiO office at 618-634-3236.
SCC and the Massac County Youth Fair: A Winning Combination
2013 Massac Co. Youth Fair Shawnee Community College faculty, staff, and student ambassadors provided free watermelon slices, fans, and bottled water to the crowd, at the Massac County Youth Fair on Tuesday.
SCC President Dr. Tim Bellamey and Vice-President of Instructional Services Vickie Artman (pictured) presented a certificate for a free 3 credit hour course, to raffle winner Colton Goins of Vienna.

Wesley Wright, former long-time Shawnee Community College Board of Trustee member, accepts a plaque from SCC President Dr. Tim Bellamey at the 2013 Athletic Golf Outing. Wright was honored for his dedication and years of service to the district and for his commitment to the college. During Wright's 22 years of service, Shawnee Community College has experienced tremendous growth. According to Bellamey, "Mr. Wright always placed the interests of our students and communities at the forefront of every decision."

Chris Vellella and Marsha Nodeen were named as Shawnee Community College's full-time and part-time ICCTA outstanding faculty nominees in May. Dr. Sheena Gibson of Peoria has been named as Shawnee Community College Alumna of the Year. Dr. Gibson is a native of Villa Ridge and graduated from Meridian High School and attended Shawnee Community College, completing an Associate of Science Degree in 2004.

Newly-appointed Board Chairperson Cathy Belcher of Anna presents Don E. Patton with a gavel plaque at the latest board meeting in recognition of his time and dedication to Shawnee Community College. Patton served as Shawnee Community College Board Chairman for the past two years and will continue as a member of the board and as the board's representative in the Illinois Community College Trustees Association.

Don E. Patton presents Naomi Nelson with a plaque commemorating her outstanding service and devotion as student trustee throughout her 2012-2013 term. Patton serves as chairman of the Shawnee Community College Board of Trustees and Illinois Community College Trustee Association representative.

PTK Induction Ceremony 2013Phi Theta Kappa International Induction at Shawnee
The Alpha Lambda Epsilon chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa international honor society at Shawnee Community College inducted 20 new members in March.
During the induction ceremony, students took the Honor Society pledge, signed the official Chapter Members book, and celebrated academic achievements with fellow Phi Theta Kappa members, faculty and staff, friends, and family members.

Shawnee Community College Board Chairman Don E. Patton and Shawnee President Dr. Tim Bellamey welcomed board trustees and administrators from Shawnee, John A. Logan, Rend Lake, and Southeastern Illinois Community Colleges to Connie's at the Gambit in March for the Southeastern Regional Board of Trustees meeting.

At the March Shawnee Community College Board of Trustees meeting, the trustees appointed Chris Boyd of Anna to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of long-time trustee Wesley Wright. The current board interviewed four candidates.

Each spring, area high school scholar bowl teams gather at Shawnee Community College for the annual Regional Office of Education Scholar Bowl competition. This year the Massac County High School Scholar Bowl team picked up first place.

Bernard and Bernadette visited with Katie Stegle's pre-k morning class at Jonesboro Grade School on Monday, March 11th. Missy Calhoun serves as teacher assistant for the class. During the visit, SCC recruiter Kristin Chamness and TRIO advisor Lindsay Meisenheimer spoke to the students about careers and education.

Unity VisitShawnee Mascot Visits Unity 1st Grade
Shawnee Community College's mascot Bernadette visited with Mandy Woods Brinker's 1st grade class at Unity Elementary in Massac County on Tuesday. The class has adopted Shawnee Community College as their college. The classroom is decorated with an SCC pennant, flag, and colors. A stuffed Bernard watches over the class each day.

Material from four library systems have merged into one: Illinois Heartland Library System. This means more resources, DVDS, books and more books! This is one of the country’s largest library automation systems, and offers over 10 million items.

Men's BaseballShawnee Falls to Kaskaskia in Regional Tournament
The SAINTS of Shawnee were very competitive in their 1st season after moving up to the NJCAA division one level. Unfortunately they came up short last night at Kaskaskia in the first round of the Region 24 tournament.
Ryan Donald led the SAINTS in scoring and rebounding with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Dwaun Stewart contributed 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assist. Shawnee finished the season with a record of 15-15.

The Shawnee College Saints Baseball Team continued its tradition of strong academic performance during the fall 2012 semester. Coached by Greg Sheppard, the Saints 3.25 GPA marks the 16th time in the past 17 years that the fall GPA has finished above 2.90.

Vickie ArtmanShawnee Starts Spring Semester with New Vice President
As Shawnee Community College welcomes students to the spring semester this month, Vickie Artman of Massac County joins the college's administration as vice president for instructional services. The vice president position was left vacant in August when Dr. Tim Bellamey was named president.
She has served as principal of the Joppa-Maple Grove Unit School district since 2005. Prior to that appointment, Artman was dean of students at Metropolis Elementary and Primary. More...
