The 2011 Southern Illinois Online Nursing Initiative program pinning ceremony was held at the Marion Pavilion Center, concluding a year-long online program. The hybrid-online associate degree nursing program, allows students to complete coursework in a non-traditional setting. SIONI, administered through ConnectSI, was approved by the Illinois Board of Nursing in 2009. The full-time associate degree nursing program focus is address the shortage of registered nurses in southern Illinois by providing working licensed practical nurses the opportunity to become a registered nurses. Bringing over 15 years of florist experience, Oliver, along with her mother Nita Hubbard and dedicated family members, can provide special occasion arrangements, holiday décor, gifts, and memorial items. Main Street Floral is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, and offers delivery services. The shop is located across from Wilson's Funeral Home. More...

Financial Aid is any scholarship, grant, loan, or work program that helps to pay for college expenses. The mission of the Shawnee Community College Financial Aid office is to provide education and information, guidance, and support for students and families interested in the financial aid process.
The first step is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form, commonly known as the FAFSA. By completing this form, students are automatically applying for a Pell Grant, FSEOG, and MAP for Illinois residents.
Shawnee Community College financial aid representatives will be visiting area high schools during the month of February and March. for assistant in completing the FAFSA. More...

Shawnee Commencement Celebrates Achievements
Enthusiasm and excitement filled the air at the 2011 Shawnee Community College commencement ceremony. The traditional spring ceremony was delayed due to flooding and related hardships that many SCC residents were experiencing. But that delay did not dampen the spirit of the August graduates. Among those celebrating were Samuel Hite of Cairo and his daughter Jessica from Karnak. The father-daughter pair competed the practical nursing certificate program. More...

SCC Presents Theatrical Version of "Hairspray"

The Shawnee Community College Performing Arts Center presented the 15th annual spring musical, "Hairspray" under the direction of Tim Frizzell.
The evening and Saturday matinee performances were followed by a "Meet the Cast" event in the atrium. The production was presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials were supplied by MTI, 421 West 54th Street, New York, NY 10019.

Annual H.S. Business Skills Competition Results
Shawnee Community College business faculty organized and led the annual high school business skills event at the college's main campus on Thursday, February 24. Approximately 100 students competed in written, performance, and presentation events during the day-long competition. More...

100 Percent of SCC Nursing Students Pass NCLEX Exam
For the fifth straight year, the Shawnee Community College Licensed Practical Nursing program boasts a 100 percent pass rate of the NCLEX Licensure exams. Exam results for the 2010 year were recently released, re-affirming the standard of excellence and quality of the SCC nursing program. SCC Vice-President Dr. Tim Bellamey said, "The 100% pass rate speaks to the quality of our faculty and our students." More...

Go Red for Women Day at SCC
Faculty, staff, and students were seeing red on Friday, but that's not a bad thing. Shawnee Community College's health training specialist, Steve Ramsey, is pictured with just a few of the Go Red for Women supporters, telling the group, "This is very important, urgent. In just the five minutes that it took to gather together this group for a photo, five women died from the result of heart disease." More...

SCC Students Try Simulation Impairment Goggles
SCC students Edreco Amos and Laeytn Field discuss the simulation impairment goggles with Illinois State Police trooper Bridget Rice during a break at the SCC Alcohol and Other Drug Workshop. Rice spoke to groups of students on the downward spiraling effects of alcohol and drug abuse on a person's life. She is the District 22 Safety Education Officer.
