“You’re a Good
Man, Charlie Brown”
Synopsis
This
revised musical version is an “average day in the life of Charlie Brown.” It really is just that, a day made of
little moments of Charlie Brown, from Valentine’s Day to the baseball season, from wild optimism to
utter despair, mixed together with the lives of his friends and pets then strung
together in a single day; from a bright, uncertain morning to a hopeful,
starlit evening.
All the
well-known figures are present: Charlie
Brown, Lucy, Linus, Schroeder, Sally, Snoopy and silent, little Woodstock.
Plus adding a chorus of extras: Pig Pen, Franklin, Peppermint Patty, Marcie and
Rerun.
After an
opening dedicated to Charlie Brown; Lucy dreams of being a queen and bossing
the world. Linus sings of his need for a
security blanket; Snoopy plans to capture the Red Baron; Sally sings about her
“new philosophy”; Schroeder continues to dedicate his life to Beethoven; and Charlie
Brown works on his kite flying ability. Together they work on a book report,
endure glee club rehearsal and replay the baseball game. However, in the end - each one shares their
own idea of what true happiness is - with Charlie Brown concluding “happiness
is anything and anyone that’s loved by you.”
