Board Approves 24 Ag Scholarships
The Shawnee Community College Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve the establishment of 12 two-year Agriculture and Natural Resource Program scholarships Monday night. Instructor Kevin Rhodes spoke to the Board of Trustees explaining his goals and strategic plans for the future of the program. In the past three semesters, the number of students involved in the program has doubled, proving the interest. Rhodes plans to tap into more interested students through thriving local FFA chapters. The first 12 scholarships are available for students studying Ag or Natural Resources this fall.

High School Musical Sees Record Attendance
The spring musical, High School Musical, saw record numbers in attendance, selling out the three weekend performances and very near sell outs on our school matinees. Approximately 4,100 people graced SCC campus over the 4 days of performances - a record for the spring musical. Hundreds of kids waited in line to get autographs from the cast and have pictures taken.
Ag Program Benefit Planned
The Agricultural and Natural Resources Program is planning a fundraiser for Saturday March 8 at Arrowhead Hunting Club in Wolf Lake. The event will by a Clay Shoot and Pork Chop dinner, beginning at 12 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person and includes dinner and one shoot. All donations will benefit the Agriculture and Natural Resources Program and the Wildlife Club at SCC.
PTK Easter Egg Hunt
The student honor fraternity Phi Theta Kappa is planning the annual Easter Egg Hunt, scheduled for Saturday, March 22. The hunt will be on main campus, beginning at 10 a.m. and is open to all children ages 1-12, free of charge.
Foundation Update
The annual Dinner Auction has been re-scheduled for April 12, 2008. Tickets are available for $40 per person or $75 per couple. For more information, contact Jeff Wiggs, Foundation Director at 618.634.3349.
Action Items Approved by the Board of Trustees:
- Approved the tuition increase for summer semester 2008.
- Approved the lab fee list.
- Approved the purchase of a campus-wide emergency notification system.
- Approved the establishment of 12 agriculture program scholarships.
- Approved the establishment of a new student organization - drama club.
- Approved the bids on the medical arts and sciences building.
Personnel Items Approved by the Board of Trustees:
- Approved the ratification of employment of part-time faculty/staff for spring semester 2008.
- Approved the re-employment of tenured faculty for FY 2009
- Approved the re-employment and tenure status for Cosmetology Instructor Regina Austin, Art Instructor Mike Faris and Nursing Instructor Kirk Nailling for FY 2009.
- Approved the re-employment of non-tenured faculty for FY 2009.
- Approved the employment of 12-month non-teaching professionals.
- Approved the re-employment of grant-supported administrators.
- Approved the resignation of classified staff member Kathy Johnson.
- Approved the employment of Executive Secretary I Terry Bowen of Jonesboro.
- Approved the employment of Advising Specialist/Golf Coach Don Wayne Davis of Whittington.
