College President Larry Peterson has hit the ground running with new program ideas, goals and projects for the college. To kick off his plan and announce his aspirations, Dr. Peterson is planning a brunch called Shawnee United. "I think this event will give the college community a better idea of where I stand and where I hope the college can go in the next few years." Peterson said.

The event will begin with brunch at 10 a.m., Saturday February 23. The keynote speaker will be SIU President Glenn Poshard. A special presentation will also be made by Ed Smith, Midwest Regional Manager of the Laborers' International Union of North America.

Announcements:

Town Hall Meetings Planned
SCC is in the process of organizing a series of Town Hall meetings to gather information and feedback from the district. All community members will be invited to attend these meetings and voice opinions on the direction of the college.

PTK Easter Egg Hunt
The student honor fraternity Phi Theta Kappa is planning the annual Easter Egg Hunt, scheduled for Saturday, March 22. The hunt will be on main campus, beginning at 10 a.m. and is open to all children ages 1-12, free of charge.

Foundation Update
The annual Dinner Auction has been re-scheduled for April 12, 2008. Tickets are available for $40 per person or $75 per couple. For more information, contact Jeff Wiggs, Foundation Director at 618.634.3349.

Action Items Approved by the Board of Trustees:

• Discussed the bids on the Medical Arts and Sciences Building
• Approved the creation of the Advancing Shawnee program.

Personnel Items Approved by the Board of Trustees:

• Approved the ratification of employment of part-time faculty/staff for spring semester 2008.
• Approved the resignation of an operational staff member.
• Approved the establishment of a College and Career Coordinator position.
• Approved the employment of business services consultant JP Barrington.
