Shawnee Launches Live Chat Portion of Web Site

Potential students and parents who do not have time or transportation to campus now have a way to ask questions of Shawnee Community College. A live chat feature has been added to the SCC web site, designated by a paw print, with the words "Dog Talk Now" representing the SCC mascot, a saint bernard.

The first chat session will be from 9 to 10 p.m., January 16. The focused topic will be on financial aid because now is the time to be applying for scholarships and grants for the fall 2008 semester. Users can discuss any topic from choices of majors or what classes to take, to student housing or how to register. The chat interface can also be used on a cell phone with internet connection. Keep checking the SCC web site, www.shawneecc.edu, for more information and additional chat times.

Announcements:

SCC Partners with U of I Extension The college is submitting a joint grant along with University of Illinois to the USDA to provide funding for 30 student internships (for Shawnee Ag Science students) to work at the Dixon Springs Agricultural Center over the next two years. The grant will cover transportation cost and provide stipends for the students. U of I is supplying over $25,000 of in-kind support for this project.

Foundation Update

The foundation of the student housing project is now complete. The SCC Foundation expects the buildings to be complete within six weeks. All furniture for the housing complex has been ordered.
