Shawnee Men Lose Close Game to Rend Lake
11/21/07
Shawnee 78 @ Rend Lake 81
Saints of Shawnee and the Warriors of Rend Lake when head to head is a tough fought contest on Tuesday night. Shawnee sophomore Jonathan Griffin got into early foul trouble and had to sit nearly the entire first half, but the Saints reserves came in and picked up the slack. Shawnee mounted a seven point lead midway through the first half at 27-20, but failed to hold on as Rend Lake battled back and led by four at the break 39-35.
The Warriors pulled away by as much as seven before the Saints cut the lead to two points with less than one minute left in the game. Rend Lake went to the line and made one out of two from the free-throw line pushing their lead to three with thirteen seconds left in regulation. The Saints came down and got a great shot from Marcus Spivey that went in and came out at the buzzer.
"I’m really proud of these guys effort tonight. If we knock down three or four more free-throws and have a couple of more stops on the defensive end, we win this game. I very excited about this teams possibilities." Coach Sparks commented.
