Look in these databases for magazine and journal articles on your topic. Most databases have full text articles online; others have citations or abstracts which you can use to find a paper copy in the library or borrow from other libraries. They are available On-Campus and Off-Campus.

Academic Universe

 

Academic Universe provides full text articles in five subject categories: NEWS (includes current + 20 yrs. back), BUSINESS (company and financial info), LEGAL state, federal, & international laws and codes), MEDICAL, and REFERENCE (country/state profiles, biographies, etc.). Be sure to view the "How do I" info!

 

AccessScience

 

Provides easy access to all articles, fully illustrated from the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology, Research Updates, definitions, illustrations, Science News headlines, and biographies.

 

AAE The African American Experience

 

AAE accesses articles from over 300 titles plus hundreds of primary source documents and historic images to study the history and heritage of African Americans in the United States. Audio files, timelines, interviews with former slaves and recommended websites cover topics in biography, arts, music, pop culture, slavery, civil rights, politics and folklore, and much more.

 

CARLI Digital Collections

 

This list of digital collections includes the Saskia Art Images collection, with 30,000 digital images of paintings, sculpture and architecture, as well as archaeological sites; historical photograph and map collections over AMerican Indian culture, French settlement of Illinois, and coal mining; WW II correspondence; and much more.

 

CQ Researcher

 

Offers in-depth, non-biased coverage on issues in the news about political and social issues, with regular reports on topics in health, international affairs, education, the environment, technology and the U.S. economy. Comprehensive reporting and analysis, the pros and cons, bibliographies and more. Archives available from 1923 forward.

 

Digital Sanborn Maps, 1867-1970

 

Provides academic and public libraries digital access to more than 660,000 large-scale maps of more than 12,000 American towns and cities. Valuable historical tools for urban specialists, social historians, architects, geographers, genealogists, local historians, planners, environmentalists and anyone who wants to learn about the history, growth, and development of American cities, towns, and neighborhoods.

 

Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)

 

This service covers free, full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals. Entries cover many subjects and come in many languages. The site offers over 3000 journals with almost 1000 of those searchable at the article level.

 

EBSCOhost

 

EBSCOhost consists of Academic Search Premier, Business Source Elite, CINAHL, Newspaper Source Plus, Health Source Plus, ERIC, Military and Government Collection, Ebsco Animals, Funk and Wagnall's New World Encyclopedia, and other databases. This core collection of digital resources primarily contains journals with full text and images.

 

Encyclopedia Britannica

 

Over 73,000 encylopedic articles are provided in this online encylopedia. Encyclopedia Britannica also filters and directs users to the best web sites on the Internet related to the subject they covered in their articles.

 

Facts on File Databases

 

Career Guidance Database lists detailed information for more than 1,200 jobs. Special features include listings of academic and non-academic programs, employability assessment and listings of scholarships by career choice.
History contains Landmark Documents in American History. This database contains historical documents, timelines, biographies and a gallery of images that enhance the study of American history and literature.

 

Green File

 

GreenFILE indexes scholarly and general interest titles, as well as government documents and reports. This resource offers a unique perspective on the positive and negative ways humans affect the environment. Drawing on the connection between the environment and disciplines such as agriculture, education, law, health and technology, GreenFILE serves as an informative resource for anyone concerned about the issues facing our planet.

The database contains nearly 300,000 records, full text for selected titles and searchable cited references for more than 200 titles as well.

 

LAE The Latino American Experience

 

LAE offers articles from more than 150 titles focusing on the history and culture of Latinos living in the United States. Coverage ranges from the pre-Columbian indigenous civilizations and Spanish and Mexican settlement to current issues. Includes images, primary documents, a timeline, and links to useful websites for music, history, folklore, immigration, sports, religion, and more.

 

MagillOnLiterature Plus

 

MagillOnLiterature Plus, produced by Salem Press, is the premier literary database, combining MagillOnLiterature and MagillOnAuthors. This database includes all the literary works, reviewed critical analyses and brief plot summaries that are included in MagillOnLiterature, as well as all the biographies and author essays included in MagillOnAuthors.

 

Mary Ann Liebert Journals

 

Authoritative peer-reviewed, full text journals in the most promising areas of biotechnology, biomedical research/life sciences, clinical medicine and surgery, and law.

 

OCLC FirstSearch

 

FirstSearch is a catalogue of books and other materials in libraries worldwide. It includes over twelve databases of resources on every topic area. Some full text articles are available but, mostly this catalog allows searching of periodicals and academic journals. Your librarian will help you obtain the materials.

 

Oxford English Dictionary (OED)

 

Oxford English Dictionary (OED) is the original source for word studies. It contains the meaning, history, and pronunciation of over a half-million words, both past and present.

 

SIRS

 

  • SIRS Researcher has articles on social, scientific, health, economics, global and political issues.
  • SIRS Renaissance provides information an the Arts and Humanities

A single search will locate articles in both databases or just in the one that you select. All resources are full text in SIRS.
