Look in these databases for magazine and journal articles on your topic. Most databases have full text articles online; others have citations or abstracts which you can use to find a paper copy in the library or borrow from other libraries. They are available On-Campus and Off-Campus.

Provides easy access to all articles, fully illustrated from the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology, Research Updates, definitions, illustrations, Science News headlines, and biographies.

  American History Online
 

American History Online contains Landmark Documents in American History. This database contains historical documents, timelines, biographies and a gallery of images that enhance the study of American history and literature.

 CARLI Digital Collections
 

This list of digital collections includes the Saskia Art Images collection, with 30,000 digital images of paintings, sculpture and architecture, as well as archaeological sites; historical photograph and map collections over AMerican Indian culture, French settlement of Illinois, and coal mining; WW II correspondence; and much more.

  Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
 

This service covers free, full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals. Entries cover many subjects and come in many languages. The site offers over 3000 journals with almost 1000 of those searchable at the article level.

  EDUCAUSE Quarterly
 

EDUCAUSE Quarterly provides timely, practical information on the applied uses of IT. EDUCAUSE Quarterly is now published in a freely available, online-only format with multimedia (graphics, live links, audio, and video). The first exclusively online edition is a comprehensive theme issue on learning spaces.

  EBSCOhost
 

EBSCOhost offers eBooks and databases (collections of periodical articles) covering many topics. Databases include Academic Search Premier, Business Source Elite, CINAHL, Newspaper Source, Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition, ERIC, Military and Government Collection, Consumer Health Complete, and more. Choose "full-text" to get the entire article.

  Encyclopedia Britannica
 

Over 73,000 encylopedic articles are provided in this online encylopedia. Encyclopedia Britannica also filters and directs users to the best web sites on the Internet related to the subject they covered in their articles.

  Ferguson's Career Guidance Database
 

Ferguson's Career Guidance Database lists detailed information for more than 1,200 jobs. Special features include listings of academic and non-academic programs, employability assessment and listings of scholarships by career choice.

Green File

 

GreenFILE indexes scholarly and general interest titles, as well as government documents and reports. This resource offers a unique perspective on the positive and negative ways humans affect the environment. Drawing on the connection between the environment and disciplines such as agriculture, education, law, health and technology, GreenFILE serves as an informative resource for anyone concerned about the issues facing our planet.

The database contains nearly 300,000 records, full text for selected titles and searchable cited references for more than 200 titles as well.

  Illinois Harvest
 

Illinois Harvest is a free public website developed at the University of Illinois Library that brings together and organizes digital resources about Illinois, written by Illinois authors, or included in the digital collections of the library. The site includes links to maps, books, photographs, journal articles, posters, and manuscripts from libraries and museums around the world.

  In the First Person
 

This index lets users perform in-depth field and keyword searches across all letters, diaries, oral histories, memoirs, and autobiographies within scholarly materials. The search returns citation information and links to full text, audio, and video whenever available.

Learning Express Library provides a completely interactive online learning platform of practice tests designed to help patrons, students, and adult learners succeed on the academic or licensing tests they must pass.

  Lexis Nexis Academic
 

Lexis Nexis Academic provides full text articles in five subject categories: NEWS (includes current + 20 yrs. back), BUSINESS (company and financial info), LEGAL state, federal, & international laws and codes), MEDICAL, and REFERENCE (country/state profiles, biographies, etc.). Be sure to view the "How do I" info!

  Magill's Medical Guide, Sixth Edition
 

The Guide is a perfect mix of accessibility and depth, providing general readers with an authoritative reference source that helps bridge the gap between medical encyclopedias for professionals and popular self-help guides.
For on Campus Use ask the Librarian for the Password or click Off-Campus Research and log in using your scc e-mail and password, then follow instructions to log in to the database.

  Mary Ann Liebert Journals
 

Authoritative peer-reviewed, full text journals in the most promising areas of biotechnology, biomedical research/life sciences, clinical medicine and surgery, and law.

  OCLC FirstSearch
 

FirstSearch is a catalogue of books and other materials in libraries worldwide. It includes over twelve databases of resources. Citations and some full text articles are available periodicals and academic journals. SCC students may ask for a username and password at the circulation desk.

  Oxford English Dictionary (OED)
 

Oxford English Dictionary (OED) is the original source for word studies. It contains the meaning, history, and pronunciation of over a half-million words, both past and present.

  SIRS
 

  • SIRS Researcher has articles on social, scientific, health, economics, global and political issues.
  • SIRS Renaissance provides information an the Arts and Humanities

A single search will locate articles in both databases or just in the one that you select. All resources are full text in SIRS.

  World News Digest
 

World News Digest brings together nearly seven decades of news from the renowned Facts On File World News Digest in print. This archival record of domestic and international news, unrivaled for its depth, breadth, and accuracy, covers all major political, social, and economic events since November 1940. World News Digest is updated twice weekly and includes a searchable hourly newsfeed. It contains more than 1 million internal hyperlinks and offers handy access features.
