Educational and Professional History
Ruth Smith is an Early Childhood Instructor at Shawnee Community College. Ruth began teaching at SCC in the fall of 1999. Early Childhood Education is something that Ruth has strong convictions about, and enjoys doing very much. She has worked in the public school system as a teacher's aide, parent educator and classroom teacher.
Ruth has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais IL, and a Bachelor of science degree from Southern Illinois University(SIU-C) in Carbondale, IL. Ruth has done graduate work at SIUC, and is currently taking graduates classes at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Ruth lives near Alto Pass, IL -- right in the middle of the beautiful Shawnee National Forest. Spending time with, and doing things for, her family is Ruth's greatest hobby. When they are busy with a hobby that she prefers not to participate in, Ruth stays busy by reading, being a "bird lady," or sewing.
