| SCC Hosts Lunch with the Best
Greg Sullivan, executive director of the Illinois Sheriff's Association, presented a plaque from Reppert Publications to Johnson County Sheriff Elry Faulkner for his dedicated service to law enforcement. Faulkner is the longest serving sheriff in the history of Illinois, according to the award. |

| Saints Read at Cypress Elementary
Shawnee Community College athletes and Future Teachers Organization members visited Mrs. Mustain’s 1st Grade at Cypress Elementary in February. SCC students read to several classes and spoke about the importance of reading well to succeed in school and in life. The students serve as role models to youth as |
| they visit schools throughout the SCC area, encouraging the elementary students to take part in the Saints Read literacy program sponsored by SCC each year.

Saints Read Celebration a Huge Success!
A crowd of over 200 gathered at SCC on Sat., Feb. 27, to help young readers in our area celebrate their reading success in the SAINTS READ literacy program. Children, parents and grandparents helped to honor young readers who met their reading goals for three months. |
| Reading logs were sent to all area schools and children in grades K-6 were invited to take part in this program.

Annual High School Business Skills Competition Results
Shawnee Community College business faculty organized and led the annual high school business skills event at the college's main campus on Thursday, February 25th. Approximately 180 students competed in written, performance, and presentation events during the day-long competition.

SCC Volleyball Named NJCAA Academic Team of the Year
Shawnee Community College's volleyball team was recently awarded the National Junior College Athletic Association distinction of Volleyball Academic Team of the Year. Coach Mike Fitzgerald submitted the team for the honor in February. With an accumulated grade point average of 3.72, the team is ranked second overall among junior college sports teams.

Saints Baseball Tops South Eastern to Stay Undefeated
The Saints used a four run ninth to gain a come from behind win over the Falcons. Josh Henson, Austin Jackson, Caleb Guilliams, Nash McVey and Shane Branum all banged out two hits each to lead the Saints. Cody Wheaton picked up his second win of the season in relief as the Saints move to 3-0 on the season. The Saints return to action on Monday when they take on Kalamazoo at Gulf Coast College (FL).

The Saints Defeat Danville, But Fall Short of Nationals
The Shawnee men's basketball team defeated Danville C.C. on Saturday to advance to the final round of the Region 24 tournament. However, the Saint's took a tough loss on Sunday against top seeded Lincoln College, and finished their season 19-9. The Saints made a game of it, tying the score late in the second half, but fell into foul trouble and lost by 14. Congratulations are still in order for Coach Sparks and his Saints for another winning season. More...
