Course Description:

Students will learn industry-leading software to edit images, adjust scanned images, correct colors, and apply filters for special effects. Also creation of logos, icons, navigation controls and background textures with drag and drop simplicity will be introduced. Student will learn the inner workings of the PhotoShop and ImageReady software.

Credit Hours:

2 credit hours. (1 hour lecture and 2 hours of lab per week)

Pre-requisite:

COM 111 Business Computer Systems and COM 178 Creating Web Pages with Dreamweaver

Weinman, L., Photoshop 7/ ImageReady For the Web Hands on Training, (Berkeley, CA) ISBN 0-321-11276-8. Peachpit Press, 2003.

Materials:

The student will need the textbook and a flash memory drive or five 3 ˝“ floppy disks to complete the course.

Course Objectives:

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

·        Insert images and some animations into the developed web pages

·        Customize graphics in order to enhance the WWW page design

·        Optimization of file sizes and formats for the web

·        Correctly use web safe colors in graphics

·        Effectively use type in images

·        Build images to be used as backgrounds for web pages

·        Change images by deleting the unused portions of the image to create transparent GIF’s

·        Setup image maps

·        Create rollover images

·        Create animated GIF images

·        Adjust scanned images by correction color schemes, cropping, panning, rotation, and nudging.

·        Create logos, buttons, icons, navigational controls and background textures.

·        FTP graphic images to the web server.

·        Link graphics to the web pages

Grading Policy:

The grading will consist of production and a portfolio evaluation of your work. All work will be presented and turned in on web pages produced with Netscape Composer, Dreamweaver or Microsoft FrontPage. You will be allotted server space to upload your files for each of your assignments.

Attendance Policy:

You need to be in class, assignments and test will be given in class and you will have class time to work on these assignments. If you miss, you will be responsible for all missed work.

Internet Section – there will be scheduled chat sessions with the instructor. You will need to attend these chat sessions or communicate with the instructor via e-mail at craigb@shawneecc.edu.

Assignment Policy:

Assignments will be turned in on time or assessed late 5% per day.

Test Policy:

Tests are expected to be taken on the date given. Production tests will be assigned and then due the following day. These production tests will be timed.

5/4 - Make sure all assignments are complete and ready to be graded
5/11- Print and hand in all images in a paper three hole folder. This is the final exam for the course.You may alternately turn in all assignments on a CD ROM separated by chapter folders.
