Practical Nursing

CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

The program is designed to prepare students for entry into the vocation of Practical Nursing.  The curriculum includes theory coordinated with related clinical experience in the nursing care of patients as defined in the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.  Upon satisfactory completion of the program, the student will be eligible to write the NCLEX-PN Examination.

PN 114 Growth & Development of PNs

Introduces students to development in terms of maturation, instinct, and cognition of the human.  The individual will be discussed in view of responses within the health care system.

 

PN 115 Clinical Nursing – Part I

Allows students the appropriate supervised time to practice in a clinical facility the content theory material presented in PN 121, PN 114, and PN 128.

 

PN 116 Clinical Nursing-Part II

The course presents the expected medical/surgical objectives that a student will complete at a clinical facility offering the student the appropriate supervised experience.

 

PN 117 Obstetrical Clinical

Presents the expected obstetric objectives that a student will complete at a clinical facility giving the student the appropriate supervised experience.

 

PN 119 Clinical Nursing-Part III

Presents the expected medical/surgical objectives that a student will complete at a clinical facility offering the student the appropriate supervised experience.

 

PN 121 Fundamentals of Nursing

Provides the concurrent instruction and supervised clinical laboratory experience necessary to meet the nursing needs of patients at an introductory level.

 

PN 125 Introduction to Mental Health

Presents materials and creates thinking relating to nursing care regarding the patient’s mental health and his/her affective domain. 

 

PN 126 Introduction to Pharmacology

A course in theory and practice that offers a basic understanding of the principles of medication administration. 

 

PN 128 Nursing Procedures

Familiarizes the student with procedures and skills concurrent with the principles underlying present theory and clinical experience to include the adult patient.

 

PN 129 Medical-Surgical Nursing I

Presents the basic concepts for maintaining adequate overall personal and community health. 

 

PN 131 Nursing Care of  Mother & Newborn

Develops within the practical nursing student an appreciation of the meaning of good prenatal and postnatal care and an understanding of the total birth process.

 

PN 132 Nursing Care of the Child

Helps students develop a basic understanding of the normal growth and development of the child, and how illness may interfere with the normal development. 

 

PN 133 Pharmacology

Presents the limitations of the practical nurse and develops a basic knowledge of the safety measures involved in preparation and administration of medicines.

 

PN 137 Medical-Surgical Nursing II

Presents the basic concepts for maintaining adequate overall personal and community health.
