SCC ELITE Camp
Students from across the district can participate in the Annual ELITE (Educating, Leading, and Inspiring Tomorrow's Entrepreneurs) Camp at Shawnee Community College in July each summer.
The camp is open to incoming 7th, 8th, and 9th graders. Participants learn basic business principles and how to complete a business plan. On the final day, campers give individual presentations about their business plans to parents, staff, and other guests.
Several guest's speak to the group throughout the week. During recent camps, Debbie Simmons, retired from University of Illinois Extension, presented a Colors Program to help participants learn their own and potential customers' personality traits.
Tim Frizzell, Shawnee Community College Speech and Theatre Instructor, discussed presentation skills for public speaking. Curt Jones, Founder and CEO of Dippin' Dots, Inc., related the initial concept and development of his international ice cream business. Jay Manus, Senior Vice-President of Capaha Bank, presented information on credit and business loans.
Chris Egelston, Magician and Motivational Speaker, entertained and shared with the participants various business related issues.
