Summary:

The Chief of Staff reports directly to the President and works closely with the President on a wide variety of administrative and executive duties, special projects, and initiatives involving the President's office and its priorities. These include promoting and supporting the mission and values of the college; overseeing the administrative, operational, and financial affairs of the Office of the President; serving as a primary liaison between the President and the various Vice Presidents, to monitor projects, develop and coordinate special and high-priority projects and initiatives. Coordinate communications and special correspondence to business, social, and political construct; and serve as a liaison to a variety of internal and external constituencies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and assures execution against the College's strategic priorities and strategic plan in collaboration with the President, Cabinet, and stakeholders. This will include, but not be limited to, creating and maintaining a process whereby deliverables against the strategic plan may be effectively tracked. May serve as the project manager for agreed upon projects that must be executed upon to achieve the College's strategic priorities.

  • Works as a liaison with various College constituencies on behalf of the President in a manner that fosters collaboration and consensus as appropriate. Constituencies may include, but not be limited to, students, community leaders, faculty, government leaders, and staff groups. Represents the President at public events, as appropriate.

  • Coordinates and leads the College's strategic engagement of government and community officials. This may include, regular engagement of local, state, and federal officials on behalf of and with the President and the development of a strategic government affairs plan to support the College's priorities.

  • Oversees and aligns the College's data collection and dissemination process and staff to inform, support, and drive strategic planning and data driven decision making.

  • Serve as a liaison between the assigned office and all levels of academic and classified staff, legislators, representatives from government and community agencies, representatives from private business, industry, and the general public; direct inquiries to the proper person or department for resolution.

  • Independently provide assistance in interpreting, researching and locating District and College policies and procedures, appropriate sections of the Illinois Community College Act.

  • Maintain non-financial Foundation records.

  • Collect, compile, assemble, and prepare information, data and reports for special studies and projects; coordinate and assist in follow through on assignments as necessary.

  • Assist in the development of Board items; create and/or collect supporting material; verify data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established procedures.

  • Manage office communications, work with the college communications staff on message strategies and consistency, and prepare and coordinate special correspondence for the President.

  • Manage the Presidents priorities to maximize her relationships with the donors, alumni, students, and other key groups and individuals.

  • Research and develop talking points for the President on issues related to College policy, process, and practice.

  • Serve as a key member of the President's cabinet and senior leadership team.

  • Updates and keeps the President abreast on issues in Higher Education and community activities.

  • Develop effective diversity and inclusion initiatives for students, faculty, and staff.

  • Other duties as assigned by the President.

Educational Skills

Required:  Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, or related field with successful administrative experience.

Preferred:  Successful upper-level administrative experience in an educational setting.
