Shawnee Golfers Stand Strong in Local Tournaments
Playing in windy, harsh conditions, the Shawnee Men's Golf team persevered to finish third in the "Shawnee Invitational" tournament Saturday, and fifth in the "John A. Logan Invitational" Sunday and Monday.
Lightning delays, hail, and 40 mph winds highlighted the Shawnee Invitational. The Saints finished third in the nine team field and were bested only by nationally ranked Rend Lake and Parkland. Shawnee's Anthony Dempsey placed third in the 48 player field.
Curtis Mitchell Prepares to Tee-Off
Sunday and Monday the Saints placed fifth in a twelve team event at Kokopelli Golf Club in Marion. Nationally ranked Rend Lake, John A. Logan, Indian Hills Iowa and Parkland finished ahead of our guys.
Shawnee's Curtis Mitchell (pictured above) finished ninth individually in the 68 player field.
Coach Davis was proud of his young team. "These guys battled. It wasn't easy. Sometimes people think golf is only a walk in the park. I assure you that to compete like these guys did takes mental and physical toughness. I am especially proud of Curt in that he made a perfect 4.0 last semester. He has his sights set on great things."
