Warriors Out Last the Saints

Rend Lake jumped out early with a 12 – 2 lead, but the Saints really locked up defensively to keep the score close. While Shawnee’s offensive spurted for the first 8 minutes of the game Rend Lake mounted a double figure lead. Around the 11 minute mark the Saints made a run to pull the Warriors of Rend Lake within seven. “Our offensive execution was poor, but we were playing hard, especially on defense.” Coach Sparks remarked.
The second half started with TJ Woodard getting a steal while fighting off two Rend Lake defenders and finishing the play with a two hand dunk. The Saint reeled the Warriors led by Breon Allen’s three 3pt. field goals. Ray Nelson & Matt Karn also was more aggressive offensively combining for 18 of the Saints 46 second half points. Shawnee took a one point lead down the stretch, but could not hang on. Rend Lake would not quit as they battled back and regained the lead. Rend Lake finally over took Shawnee in the last 40 seconds of the game to seal the deal.
“We did not execute down the stretch. Coach Wills guys played hard and made plays down the stretch. As for us, our bench did a great job scoring, defending & and encouraging their team-mates, but our go to guys did not step up and make plays. We have the talent; we need them to deliver.” Coach Sparks commented.
The Saints face Southeastern Illinois on Wednesday, November 29th at home with a 7:30 tip-off.
