Head Coach John Sparks
Coach Sparks begins his fourth season at the helm of Shawnee Community College’s men’s basketball program. After completing an exciting season filled with some big wins and some disappointing losses, Coach Sparks is anxiously optimistic and excited about the upcoming season.
Coach Sparks’ intense sideline style became contagious as the Saints knocked off nationally ranked opponents and went deeper into the playoffs than they had in several years. His enthusiasm and passion has sparked an interest in Saints basketball. "I am truly excited about this season and this group of young men. Whether you’re in the classroom, study hall, gym, or weight room, give me your best." With another challenging schedule ahead of them, Coach Sparks hopes to lead the 2004-05 Saints to their first winning season in over eight years.
Sparks places a lot of emphasis on academics. Study hall, attending class, and tutoring is non-negotiable. With five students making the dean’s list and one distinguished Academic All-American last season, Sparks hopes to meet and even surpass those accomplishments. "We are trying to build positive habits that will help our student-athletes be successful in the game of basketball and in the game of life."
