Classification - Course Load
A freshman student at Shawnee Community College is one who has earned less than 30 semester hours of college credit. A sophomore student is one who has earned 30 or more semester hours of credit.
A full-time student is one who carries 12 or more credit hours durnig the fall and spring semesters or six or more credit hours during the summer semester. A part-time student is one who carries les than 12 credit hours in a given semester.
A full-time student may enroll for a maximum of 18 credit hours in day courses, evening courses, or a combination of these during the fall and spring semesters. To enroll in more than 18 credit hours, the following guidelines are to be followed:
- Students with 30 or more credit hours earned at Shawnee Community College and with a grade point average of 3.20 or more may carry up to 21 credit hours.
- Students with 30 or more credit hours earned at Shawnee Community College with a grade point average less than 3.20 or students with less than 30 credit hours earned at Shawnee Community College with a grade point average of 3.20 or more must secure an advisor signature to carry up to 21 credit hours.
- Students with less than 30 credit hours earned at Shawnee Community College and with less than a 3.00 grade point average must sucure the signature of the Vice President of Instructional Services to carry up to 21 credit hours.
