Title III Program
The new buzzword on campus is "Title III." There are "Title III people, Title III programs, Title III offices, and the list will continue to grow over the next five years.
So what is Title III?
Title III is a federal grant program that was established to provide assistance to institutions with limited resources. For Shawnee Community College, President Dr. Larry Choate believes "Title III will enable the college to build a tremendously supportive dynamic learning environment that will increase chances of student success in achieving their educational objectives."
To receive funding under Title III, a plan must be devised that shows the financial support will create initiatives (activities) which will have a long-term impact on the college, and that the successful initiatives (activities) will be institutionalized.
Over the next five years, Title III funds will be used to support two activities. These activities will primarily focus on strengthening student services and academic quality here at SCC. "Success for our institution means meeting students' needs whenever, wherever, and however we touch them", said Dr. Ludwig.
Mr. Richard Massie, Vice President of Student and Administrative Services, has said, "The Student Services Division is proud to implement Title III at Shawnee Community College. Title III will assist Shawnee Community College in developing and completing goals for our academic programs, institutional management, and fiscal stability based on comprehensive planning. Ultimately the students and community served by Shawnee Community College will benefit from a stronger institution."
